TikTok has announced the repair of a security flaw that allowed hackers to take over some accounts of major companies and celebrities.
Last week, hackers exploited a zero-day vulnerability in TikTok's DMs feature. These vulnerabilities are security flaws with no official patch or public information detailing the underlying weakness.
After being compromised, Tiktok suspended user accounts belonging to Sony, CNN, and some celebrities to prevent abuse.
"Our security team is aware of a potential exploit targeting a number of brand and celebrity accounts," TikTok spokesperson Alex Haurek said.
"We have taken measures to stop this attack and prevent it from happening in the future. We're working directly with affected account owners to restore access, if needed."
TikTok has over one billion active monthly users, making it one of the largest social media platforms.
