LuLu Hypermarket, in association with the Ministry of Municipality, celebrated World Environment Day Wednesday, showcasing its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability.
The event, held at LuLu Hypermarket’s D Ring Road branch, featured a symbolic tree planting ceremony. Sheikh Suhaim al-Thani, a representative of the Public Parks Department, and Shanavas P, regional manager of LuLu Hypermarkets in Qatar, planted a tree as part of the Ministry of Municipality’s prestigious ‘Plant Ten Million Trees’ initiative.
The activity underscored the importance of conserving natural resources and promoting a greener future. LuLu Hypermarket is proud to contribute to this noble cause and remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that benefit the environment.
In addition to the tree-planting ceremony, a variety of engaging activities were organised to raise awareness about environmental conservation. LuLu Hypermarket launched a special promotion, offering reusable bags to customers and distributing plants to encourage sustainable practices.
During the event, an official from the ministry praised LuLu Hypermarket’s environmental initiatives, particularly the implementation of innovative recycling vending machines across 18 stores in Qatar. These machines encourage customers to recycle plastic bottles, fostering a circular economy. A demonstration of plastic disposal in these vending machines was also conducted.
LuLu Hypermarket, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and the Public Parks Department, distributed plants to customers at the D Ring Road branch and The Pearl Qatar, further promoting green practices.
A senior official from LuLu management reflected on the initiative, “Our strategy is very clear: By 2030, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint by 50%, and by 2050, we intend to achieve net-zero emissions and become carbon neutral.”
Additionally, LuLu Hypermarket has set up kiosks in select outlets for customers to drop off e-waste, partnering with local sustainability organisations. The hypermarket has also launched a campaign to raise awareness about environmental issues among customers and promoted e-bills to reduce paper usage in stores.
As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, LuLu Hypermarket introduced a special ‘Buy 2 Get 1 Free’ promotion on reusable bags, encouraging customers to adopt eco-friendly alternatives and reduce their carbon footprint. Eco-friendly products were also highlighted in each store to emphasise the importance of sustainable shopping choices.
LuLu Hypermarket firmly believes in its responsibility towards the environment and strives to play a significant role in creating a sustainable future. Their ongoing efforts align with Qatar’s national initiatives to support sustainability and environmental protection, demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact on the planet.
