The Arab League has welcomed Slovenia's official recognition of the State of Palestine following the country's Parliament ratification of the government decision. The League highlighted that this move reflects a genuine conviction in the "two-state solution" and Slovenia's sincere desire to support and implement this solution as soon as possible.

Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit said in a statement today that the step follows several European countries' recognition of Palestine, bringing the total number of countries recognizing the State of Palestine to 148." He added that this recognition represents a cornerstone for the establishment of the state under international law.

Aboul Gheit emphasized that this decision also reflects a sound political, moral, and legal stance. It marks an important milestone towards the realization of the Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Furthermore, it contributes significantly to achieving peace. He urged countries that have not yet taken this step to reconsider their positions and stand on the right side of history.

On May 28, Spain, Norway, and Ireland announced their recognition of the State of Palestine.
