The first day of launching the subsidised sheep initiative has seen great turnout of Qataris at Al Wakra Central Market, Al Sheehaniya and Al Shamal Slaughterhouse, in addition to Abu Nkhla, Al Mazroua, and Al Khor yards to receive their allocated sheep.
The sheep was sold at QR1,000 per head as part of the initiative. Speaking to local Arabic daily 'Arrayah', a number of Qataris stressed that this initiative is very effective and helped in stabilising prices of sheep at this time of the year when demand surges. They said that the prices of sheep outside the initiative amounted to QR1,500 to QR2,000 per head.
Mossa Othman, director of Public Relations at Widam Food Company, said all the outlets designated to sell the subsidised sheep saw considerably high turnout at the first day of launching the initiative. He said Widam has adequate stock of Somalian sheep, weighing around 20 to 30kg, available for both Qataris and expatriates at QR650 per head. Complying with all conditions and standards for sacrificial sheep, they are available at Widam outlets and through online booking at Widam App only on the first two days of Eid.
He stressed that all livestock will be subject to strict veterinary checkups before and after slaughtering. In case of destroying the carcass due to any diseases, a certificate will be issued to compensate the customer accordingly.
