As part of the continued work to ease the suffering of patients coming from Gaza and to provide continuing care, Gaza Patients Community Support Team at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) organised an entertainment event ahead of Eid al-Adha.

The event at Bayt Al Dhiyafa at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City was attended by HMC officials who are part of the team. Chair and Corporate Social Service (CSC) executive director Bashayr al-Rashid, CSC manager Emily Norby, Women Wellness and Research Center social worker Chorooq Hijab, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute social worker Duha Nahia, a number of patient escorts and staff members of CSC and Corporate Communications Department at HMC were present.

Dr Abdulmueen al-Qahtani, consultant in Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Surgery at Rumailah Hospital, delivered the welcome speech with a religious lecture, in co-operation with Dawa and Religious Guidance at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

The event witnessed entertainment activities held in co-operation with Lamasat Haniya Initiative by Qatar Voluntary Center, Eid Cultural Center and Al Farah Events and included flower and greeting cards making, Henna corner, and painting.

Bashayr stated that the initiative confirms the importance of community engagement to enhance unity and solidarity with the Palestinian brothers in such difficult circumstances that the people in Gaza are living in.

"Our goal from engaging children in this event was to enhance their mental resilience and mitigate the consequences of the war and give them the opportunity to engage with fellow children in entertainment activities in an entertaining and cheerful atmosphere.”

She also expressed her appreciation to the team of the Ministry of Social Development and Family, especially the Al Thumama Residence Administration, for their co-operation in transporting a number of Gazans to participate in the initiatives of Gaza Patients Community Support Team.

Emily noted that Gaza Patients Community Support Team tries to provide a safe and supportive environment through activities that benefit adults and children patients. ‘Through our efforts, we hope to create an atmosphere of unity and belonging for our patients and their families with the efforts of the medical teams and HMC community.

Chorooq, said: "Patients in Gaza have faced many challenges and we are committed to bringing a smile to their faces." Duha explained that the event was held for the second time and coinciding with the approaching Eid al-Adha. Certificates of appreciation were presented to recognise the participating bodies and volunteers.
