The Swiss International School in Qatar (SISQ), with students from over 96 nationalities, celebrated International Day on June 6 when students, parents and teachers came together for a day filled with festivities, highlighting the diversity.
The day began with the lively Parade of Nations, where students carried flags representing their countries and dressed in their traditional attire, symbolising unity amidst diversity at SISQ.
Throughout the day, parents, staff and students had the opportunity to explore different cultural villages set up on the campus grounds, including representations from various regions such as Europe, Africa, Asia/Middle East, North America and South America. Attendees savoured traditional dishes from around the world, including Fairy Bread from Australia, Paella from Spain, Baklava from Turkiye, Biryani from Pakistan, and more.
The event also featured an array of cultural performances. Acts included Layla with a Qanun performance from Jordan, Kindergarten Mariachi together with Des representing Mexico, Nadjoua singing a song from Palestine, a group of students performing for Ireland, PYP students singing "Douce France" from France, India represented on stage by parents Chaitali and Sweety, a group of students guided by Dorte reciting a poem from Germany, and Turkiye represented on stage by a group of girls from the Turkish School of Qatar. The event concluded with a performance by teacher assistants from the Philippines.
