The Eid al-Adha celebrations at Katara - Cultural Village, which started Sunday evening, attracted a big crowd of people from several nationalities and various walks of life.
The celebrations include a variety of activities and performances that were well-received by both adults and children. The art workshops attracted a large number of children who enjoyed drawing, colouring, paper crafting, stamp making, origami, butterfly crafting, flower making, paper mache, and other workshops spread along the Katara Corniche.
In particular the theatrical play "Garden of Dreams" highly engaged the audience, who praised its story, which was a journey full of mystery, magic, adventure, excitement, and wonder. The play highlighted the importance of preserving water resources, stressing that beauty is not just external but in the hearts of living things and nature itself. The play is performed twice daily, at 7.20pm and 9.20pm, throughout the Eid celebrations. To ensure the audience could watch the play and other shows comfortably, Katara has provided air conditioners to cool the performance areas.
Katara's Eid gifts were distributed at the southern entrance near Building 41 and at the headquarters of the Al-Gannas Qatari Society (Al-Burqa Building). On Katara Corniche, folk groups presented their unique performances, which attracted a large audience. The troupes are from countries such as China, Syria, Morocco, Jordan, and Africa.
Many artists created live drawings in front of the audience, capturing the atmosphere and Eid joy. Kiosks are spread out along the inner area of the open-air theater, offering a variety of handmade products, souvenirs, and traditional dishes.
Astronomy enthusiasts will have the opportunity to enjoy a series of 3D films Monday, from 5pm to 8pm at Al-Thuraya Planetarium, Building 41. Until Tuesday Katara is also holding a fireworks display, from 10pm to 10.10pm.
