Qatar beach handball team on Tuesday lost to their US counterpart 1-2 in their first match in the Group D competitions of the 11th Beach Handball World Championship, which is being held on the Chinese island of Pingtan and continues until June 23.

The Qatari team will play their second match tomorrow against Uruguay before concluding their campaign in the preliminary round by meeting the German team on the same day.

16 teams are taking part in the tournament, divided into four groups. Group A includes Australia, Oman, Denmark and Hungary, whereas Group B has Tunisia, Spain, China and Brazil. Group C consists of Puerto Rico, Portugal, Argentina and Croatia, while Group D is made up of Qatar, Germany, Uruguay and the United States of America.
