The Preventive Health Department under the Wellness Section of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) held the closing and award ceremony to recognise schools that participated in the wellness programme for the academic year 2023-2024.

Implemented for the second year in collaboration with the School Health Section under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), the wellness programme was aimed at enhancing students’ quality of life physically, mentally and socially.

This covered raising awareness about healthy eating habits, general exercise recommendations, improved sleeping patterns and effective stress management for achieving wellness or well-being as well as creating a healthy academic environment for students.

Honoured on the occasion were wellness centres at Al Khor, Al Ruwais, Umm Slal, Leabaib, Rawdat Al Khail, Muaither, and Al Wajba health centres for their efforts in promoting wellness programmes in schools, physicians and fitness coaches, school nurses and co-ordinators, and student winners of drawing and essay competitions.

The closing ceremony at Al Sadd Health Centre featured keynote addresses by programme manager and Wellness for Community Interventions head Dr Abdulhameed al-Khenji, Wellness for Clinical Interventions head Dr Hissa al-Muraikhi, and Wellness Community Intervention co-ordinator Dr Eiman Abu Elshwarib.

The initiative covered 15 government schools from the primary, secondary and higher secondary categories.
