The Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, in collaboration with the United Nations Office at Geneva, organized the third edition of the Football Tournament for the Diplomatic Community in Geneva under the theme Sport for Peace and Humanity. The aim of the event was to leverage sports to promote the shared values of cooperation and solidarity.

Eight teams representing various regional groups participated in the tournament: Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, North and Central America and the Caribbean, South America, the Arab Group, and the Gulf Cooperation Council. Additionally, a team from the United Nations Office at Geneva participated. Activities for children were also organized alongside the matches.

At the conclusion of the tournament, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva Tatiana Valovaya, HE Deputy Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr. Mohammad bin Saif Al Kuwari, and Executive Director at Generation Amazing Foundation Nasser Al Khori presented the awards to the winning teams and congratulated the players for their high sportsmanship.

The event highlighted the values of football and its connection to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing its role in promoting principles of tolerance, unity in diversity, cooperation, and solidarity. It also provided a sense of normalcy and enhanced self-esteem and team spirit.

HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar reiterated that the tournament once again demonstrated the great value of sports in promoting the humanitarian principles of equality, fraternity, and solidarity. She expressed her anticipation of maintaining the momentum to preserve this initiative as an annual event for many years to come.

Her Excellency also extended her gratitude to the main sponsors of this year's tournament; Generation Amazing Foundation and NHRC.

On this occasion, HE Deputy Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee expressed the committee's delight in sponsoring the tournament, viewing the third edition as an appropriate opportunity to reflect the committee's commitment to integrating human rights concepts into sports events in the city of Geneva. He explained that the NHRC's sponsorship of this tournament aligns with the Olympic Charter, which considers sport a human right and asserts that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in sports without discrimination of any kind and in the spirit of understanding and mutual communication in an atmosphere of friendship, solidarity, and fair play.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Generation Amazing Foundation said that the foundation was proud to sponsor the football tournament. He added that the foundation's programs harness the influential power of sport to promote peace and cultural cooperation in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He reaffirmed the commitment of Generation Amazing Foundation to drive positive social change both on and off the field, in collaboration with Qatar's Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
