The headquarters of the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association witnessed the first meeting of the Scouts and Guides Committee in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries last week.
In the presence of Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi, president of the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association; Maha al-Ruwaili, vice-president of Qatar Scouts and Guides Association; Jassim al-Hardan, commissioner general of the Association and the participating delegations, the meeting began with a welcome speech from Dr al-Nuaimi.
"We are sure this meeting will witness the launch of new initiatives and development programmes that enhance our communication and co-operation to achieve our common goals. We also welcome your ideas and suggestions to strengthen the scouting and guiding movement's journey in the GCC,” said al-Nuaimi.
Abdullah al-Khalaf, legal adviser and member of the GCC General Secretariat, spoke about the importance of the meeting, which establishes the merger of bodies under one name based on the decision of the Ministers of Education in the GCC countries to unify the Scouts and Guides committees into one Committee.
Dr Nader Mohamed al-Jamali, director of the Physical Education Department at the Ministry of Education in Bahrain, said the meeting was unique, as the Scouts and Guides societies were merged. He stressed that the ultimate goal of integration is for students to obtain the best activities and events in all scout camps with the best quality and unified thought.
There is a five-year strategic plan in which Member States submit their proposals and plans to the Secretariat. The plan will be implemented in 2025.
