The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), hosted the third meeting for the Patent Committee for the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries.

The meeting was part of the joint effort of Gulf countries in the field of patents, aimed at stimulating innovation, economic and knowledge growth, and protecting intellectual property in the GCC countries.

It follows the decision of the Trade Co-operation Committee during its extraordinary meeting held in January 2021, which included the formation of the Patent Committee that is composed of officials of the competent authorities of each GCC member state.

This congregation is part of a series of meetings held by MoCI to gather opinions, foster discussions, and promote cooperation in enhancing and developing shared intellectual property. It also supports the journey of joint Gulf efforts in the field of patents to achieve an economy based on knowledge and innovation.

The meeting addressed several key points aimed at taking a holistic view of intellectual property issues and adopting a unified and common Gulf position. It also highlighted future plans in the field of intellectual property and the enhancement, protection and development of patents in the GCC countries.
