Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, will participate in the Libya International Holy Quran Competition. According to a statement from Awqaf, the competition will be held in the country's capital Tripoli on July 9. Mohamed Abdullah Ahmed Mohamed Kanoo will represent the country. According to the statement, the competition, in its 12th edition will witness wide participation from across the world .
Malallah Abdul Rahman al-Jaber, director of the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance at Awqaf, said that Mohamed is a student of the Holy Qur’an and its Sciences Centre functioning under Awqaf. The centre prepares Qatar’s contestants to represent it in international venues and global competitions for memorising the holy Qur’an.
Khalid Walid al-Hammadi will head the Qatari delegation. The competition will host participants from 54 countries and competitions include Qur’an memorising, intonation and recitation.
Al-Jaber noted that Awqaf is keen to participate in international Holy Qur’an competitions because the youth of Qatar are distinguished by their strength in memorising, mastering and reciting the Qur’an. He noted Qatar has won several prestigious recognitions in several international Qur’an competitions.
