The organising committee of the annual school competition for memorising the Holy Qur’an at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has started distributing prizes to the winners.

A total of 16,089 students from various levels took part in the tests in November last year.

The sixth edition of the competition witnessed the participation of boys and girls from 555 public and private schools across Qatar.

Organising committee chairman Jassim Abdullah al-Ali said that the total cash prize is QR8mn and that the prizes are distributed to encourage the students to participate in the competition and to honour them.

“The cash rewards have begun to be deposited for the winners via a bank transfer recorded by the guardian on the competition website,” he said. “They will be notified of the deposit of the special amounts.”

“The parents get notification messages from the registered bank once the cash prize is received,” al-Ali added.

The competition, according to the official, is organised by Awqaf as part of its efforts to promote religious values and Islamic education among students ranging from kindergarten to secondary school.

He added that there is co-ordination between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and various Awqaf departments.

The total number of registered students for the competition reached 23,677.

Al-Ali thanked the MoEHE, schools and parents for their co-operation in the successful organising of the competition.
