President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen called on Thursday for reaching an immediate and enduring ceasefire in Gaza.

In a speech before the European Parliament, von der Leyen stressed the need to stop the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip immediately, noting the death of many children, women, and civilians in the war that people in the Gaza Strip cannot bear anymore.

She noted that the humanitarian conditions were also no longer tolerable, indicating that there was therefore an urgent need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Earlier Thursday, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, since Oct. 7, had risen to 38,848 martyrs and 89,459 wounded, most of whom were women and children.
