Ashghal completes Package 2 of Al Mearad, Southwest of Muaither project

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the main work of Package 2 of the Road and Infrastructure Development Project in Al Mearad and Southwest of Muaither.Engineer Fahad Mohamed al-Otaibi, head of Western Areas Section at Roads Projects Department, said the project is part of a development plan for Al Mearad and Southwest of Muaither areas.This includes a total of five packages and is one of the most important projects currently being implemented by Ashghal due to its vital location serving many residential units, health centres and educational and commercial facilities.Package 2 of Al Mearad and Southwest of Muaither project serves 410 residential plots, which are part of the 7,833 plots completed in May this year within 12 areas in the north, west and south of Qatar.The rest of the main works in this package have recently been completed, and the installation of house connections to the drainage network is currently underway as well as landscaping and beautification works in the area, including the planting of 920 trees and 15,000sq m of green spaces.Regarding the works completed within Package 2, Ghanim al-Tamimi, project engineer in the Roads Projects Department, said the construction of a 14km road network has been completed to enhance traffic flow and provide connectivity to public facilities.These are in addition to providing 28km of pedestrian and bicycle paths and installing 793 lighting poles.The project encompassed the development of infrastructure services, including the provision of a 10km drainage network, 9km of groundwater and rainwater drainage network, and 6km of irrigation water network.Local materials and manufacturers were relied upon in most of the project works.Locally sourced materials include lighting poles and lamps, drainage pipes, precast manholes, electrical cables, signboards and interlock.This is in line with Ashghal’s Taheel initiative to support local manufacturers.
