The Education City Pre-University Education (PUE) Theatre to launch on August 13, “Me and The Author,” a social comedy play inspired by the text “Six Characters in Search of an Author” by Luigi Pirandello, and directed by Ibrahim Lari, and starring Khaled al-Humaidi, Rashid Ahmed, Mandar Thani, Faisal Qasim, Mohammed Ahmed, and Abdullah al-Siddiqi. Director Ibrahim Lari had previously presented the play “Six Characters in Search of an Author” two years ago as part of the University Theatre Festival (Our Youth on Stage), but he tried to give it a local touch by employing three of the most important Qatari theatrical works: “Budriyah” by Hamad al-Rumaihi, “Hello Gulf” by Ghanem al-Sulaiti, and “There” by Abdulrahman al-Mannai.
“Me and The Author” deals with the story of a theatrical team preparing to rehearse a play, when a family of fictional characters breaks into their work, looking for an author to write it and a director to present it on stage. The family members try to convince the director and the theatrical team to be convinced by what they think is an exciting dramatic story, so that they can present it as a theatrical work. Then the members of this family begin to help the real theatrical team by reenacting scenes from local theatrical works.
