Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, is taking part in the 44th King Abdulaziz International Qur’an Competition, held in Makkah.

An Awqaf statement said that Qatar is represented by Omar Mubarak Saeed Haswan al-Marri and Abdullah Turki Mohamed al-Turki al-Subaie while the delegation is headed by Masoud Jarallah Masoud Bushraida. The contestants were nominated by the Section of the Holy Qur'an and its Sciences in the Department of Da’wa and Religious Guidance.

The preliminary qualifiers for the competition started on August 9 while the final qualifiers for the competition will be held in the Grand Mosque in Makkah under the supervision of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Da’wah, and Guidance.

The international competition sees the participation of 166 contestants from 117 countries. The competition is divided into five categories. The prize pool for the competition is SAR 4mn; in the first category, the top three winners will receive SAR 500,000, SAR 450,000 and SAR 400,000 respectively. The closing ceremony will take place at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
