Qatar Charity (QC) has successfully completed 42 congenital heart surgeries for children at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) during a week-long medical camp this month.

The medical camp marked a significant achievement, treating 42 patients, up from 30 beneficiaries in 2023. It brought together a team of internationally recognised medical professionals who performed life-saving cardiac catheterisation procedures.

Among the many stories of hope and recovery is that of Zainab Mohammed, who was suffering from heart problems. After being assessed and deemed eligible, it appeared she would have to wait until next year due to a lack of necessary devices. However, thanks to the efforts of benefactors in Qatar, a delegation from QC provided the specific equipment, enabling her to undergo the operation during the current camp.

"It's a miracle that things came into place to allow for my daughter to have a cure," said Hajj Hamza, expressing his joy and relief.

"With Allah’s grace and the generous support of benefactors in Qatar, we successfully completed the surgery for this girl,” said Khalid Abdulla Alyafei, director of the Donors Relations Department at QC, who thanked the medical and operational teams. The initiative is part of QC’s broader vision of long-term sustainability, investing in training and capacity-building for local healthcare professionals, he added.

Prof Yao, the lead paediatric cardiologist on the local team, also expressed deep appreciation for QC’s initiative that saved the lives of dozens of children in Ghana.
