QC wraps up fundraising for Malkha Rouhi

After evoking overwhelming response from benefactors and accomplishing the desired goal, Qatar Charity (QC) has wrapped up its fundraising drive for the treatment of nine-month-old Malkha Rouhi.Malkha, an Indian national, has been diagnosed with Type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), an inherited disease that affects nerves and muscles, causing muscles to become increasingly weak.Type 1 SMA is severe and causes respiratory muscle weakness and respiratory failure.Doctors have suggested a gene replacement therapy and certain drugs.Daughter of Risal Abdul Rasheed and Nihala Nizam, Malkha is undergoing treatment at Sidra Medicine.Rasheed, who expressed his gratitude to the supporters, said that Sidra has started the treatment procedures and expressed his hope that everything will pan out as planned.The QC had made appeals for donations towards the treatment of Malkha.The goal was to raise QR11.65mn.A meeting of Indian community organisations and institutions across Qatar launched a slew of measures to support the QC initiative to help Malkha."Our collective efforts have yielded the results. The participation of organisations, institutions and individuals is commendable and unforeseen. We thank everyone for everything,” Indian Community Benevolent Forum secretary Mohamed Kunhi TK said, adding that hundreds of organisations turned up to support the initiative.Many organisations contributed through fundraising events that included a Biriyani Challenge, while some institutions donated salaries.
