Philippine ambassador Lillibeth V Pono lauded the Filipino architects’ contribution to the development of the built environment of Qatar at a recent event, urging them to use their knowledge and skills to be drivers of change and innovation."Here in Qatar, Filipino professionals — notably Filipino architects — have had an outsized role in helping spur our host country’s development and progress. Renowned for their world-class talent and creativity, Filipino architects have been instrumental in the transformation not only of this country, but also of the broader Middle East region, into what it is today,” said the envoy.Taking part in various events organised by Filipino professional groups in Qatar, Pono recently joined members of the United Architects of the Philippines - Qatar Chapter in their induction, oath-taking, and turnover ceremonies. She also attended the general membership meeting and seminar of the Qatar Chapter of the National Master Plumbers Association of the Philippines, Inc, themed ‘Plumbing Strategies, Technologies, and Approaches Towards Sustainable Development Goals’.Pono said the theme "resonates with the Philippines’ immediate agenda of promoting advanced research and development, technology, and innovation, particularly in technical fields”.She also paid tribute to the value of the work being undertaken by master plumbers."Beyond jokes and funny quips about being a ‘tubero’, being a master plumber requires technical know-how and expertise that could only be obtained through practical experience and continuous learning,” she said. "Whether it’s designing comprehensive plumbing systems or ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, it takes dedication, passion, and competence to be a good master plumber.”The day was capped off by the general assembly, election and induction of the Board of Directors, and recognition of the life members of the Filipino Planning Engineers Association. In her remarks, Pono said the event’s emphasis on achieving global competitiveness was a "timely reminder of the urgency to upskill, to keep up with the fast-paced progress in the field of technology, and to be updated with developments in your respective fields.”"Being static and complacent amounts to a grave disservice to your profession and your own personal growth,” she said. "Without growth, you risk losing out to others who are ready, adaptable, and able to take on the challenge of learning new and innovative ways of doing things.”
