The Centre for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), under the Ministry of Social Development and Family, has resumed the activities of its day clubs.

They offer a variety of programmes and recreational, social, and educational events aimed at improving the quality of life for the elderly.

Sheikha Ahmed al-Harib, acting director of awareness and community outreach at Ehsan, said that the day club activities started along with the 2024/2025 academic year.

These will be held at all four branches of Ehsan day clubs (three for women and one for men).

The events will include religious programmes, awareness lectures, and training programmes, workshops on handicrafts and various field trips and visits.

Al-Harib said the programmes have been designed based on well-studied plans by a specialised team at Ehsan, addressing the psychological, social, and health needs of the elderly.

According to the latest figures, 261 elderly Qatari and expatriate women and men aged 60 and above have benefitted from Ehsan’s clubs in recent years.

The clubs also support families with elderly members, helping them care for their seniors and occupy their time with useful activities.

To join Ehsan's clubs, applicants must be 60 years or older, for both Qatari citizens and expatriates with valid residency permits.

A copy of a health report detailing any medical conditions, confirming stable health that does not require direct medical supervision, must also be provided.

Applicants must fill in the Ehsan Day Club membership application form and submit the necessary documents through Ehsan's website or by visiting the centre’s headquarters.
