At least 30 people were killed and more than 400,000 displaced by floods in northeastern Nigeria.

Local authorities said that floods caused by heavy rains that submerged the city of Maiduguri causing death of 30 people and the displacement of more than 400,000 residents of the city, noting that the death toll is expected to rise, while rescuers continue to work.

The floods submerged thousands of homes last week, due to a rapid rise in water levels, which led to the cracking of the Alau Dam.
The United Nations Refugee Agency in Nigeria has announced that the city is experiencing one of the worst floods in 30 years.
