The Vietnamese embassy in Doha marked Tuesday the 79th anniversary of the National Day of Vietnam, by highlighting the growing bilateral relations with Qatar.

Qatar's Minister of Communications and Information Technology HE Mohamed bin Ali bin Mohamed al-Mannai, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Protocol Department director ambassador Ibrahim Fakhroo, and several diplomats and other dignitaries were present.

The Vietnamese ambassador Nguyen Huy Hiep expressed the admiration of his country for the various achievements and comprehensive development leaps made by Qatar.

"On this occasion, on behalf of the State and the people of Vietnam, I would like to congratulate the people of Qatar for their tremendous victories in building a modern and prosperous nation, under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. We also highly appreciate the foresight foreign policies implemented by Qatar, which have heightened its role and prestige regionally and globally. "

He pointed out that Qatar remains an important partner of Vietnam in the Middle East region. "Vietnam and Qatar enjoy great friendship and co-operation that dates back three decades, based on mutual trust and benefits. The two countries have been exchanging delegations of different levels and keep maintaining important co-operation mechanism, as well as supporting each other at international forums.

"The two-way trade volume varies around $400mn to $500mn from year to year. In 2023, many economic and cultural activities were organised by both sides to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Vietnam is currently keen on unlocking further potential of co-operation with Qatar, particularly in investment and trade, and new areas of digital transformation, green energy and Halal industry for the mutual benefit of the people of the two countries."

The envoy also noted that Vietnam has emerged to be among 40 leading economies, with a trade volume in the top 20 economies in the world, an important link in 16 FTAs involving 60 major economies in the region and the world, and top favourite investment destination among Asia’s emerging and developing countries.
