Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented a significant project to support education in Yemen's Hajjah and Ibb governorates, a statement said Monday.

The project involved renovating several non-operational schools, providing incentives to hundreds of teachers, and distributing school bags and supplies to thousands of students at the start of the new academic year.

The project, which began last year and was completed this year, comes amid a severe deterioration in Yemen's educational conditions, as reported by international humanitarian organisations.

The ongoing crisis, now in its ninth year, has negatively impacted the continuity of education in schools due to a lack of necessities and the suspension of teachers' salaries.

This situation has, in turn, exacerbated the issue of student dropouts.

The project aims to enhance educational opportunities and encourage students to return to school.

It included key activities focused on improving educational conditions and supporting teachers and students in these marginalised areas and villages within the two targeted governorates.

The education support project rehabilitated eight schools in remote and marginalised villages and provided financial incentives to more than 300 teachers, both male and female, for several months.

Around 4,100 students received school bags containing essential school supplies and stationery.

Fathi Abdu Ali al-Basir, head of the projects and equipment division at the Education Office in the Ibb Governorate, expressed gratitude to the QC for its support in the education sector in Al Dhihar and Dhi As Sufal districts.

In a related development, the QC's intervention at Ali Bin Abi Talib School in Hajjah Governorate has made a significant difference.

Principal Ahmed Qa'id al-Sharqi said the assistance has revitalised the school, and stabilised the educational process.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Qatar Charity and to the generous people of Qatar,” he said.
