European Union's Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell warned on Monday that the Israeli aggression on Lebanon threatens to plunge the entire Middle East into a "full-fledged war."
"I can say that we are almost in a full-fledged war," Borrell said in remarks ahead of his participation in a meeting in New York of representatives of the Group of Seven (G7) countries on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), renewing the call for a ceasefire.
He added that civilians in Lebanon are paying an intolerable and unacceptable price, stressing that "Here in New York is the moment to do that. Everybody has to put all their capacity to stop this path to war," while acknowledging, on the other hand, the failure of diplomatic efforts to stop the war in the Gaza so far.
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health announced on Monday that the death toll from the Israeli aggression on southern and eastern Lebanon has risen to 492, including 35 children and 58 women, with 1,645 injured.
