The Carthage Theatre Festival chose the Qatari play 'Between Two Hearts' to participate in the official competition after it received high ratings from the selection committee. It won the most prominent awards of the 36th Doha Theatre Festival, most notably the Best Theatrical Play Award. The play Between Two Hearts is produced by Msheireb Production Company, written by Taleb al-Dous and directed by Mohammed Youssef al-Mulla. The theatrical troupe is expected to begin rehearsals at the end of next month in preparation for participating in the festival scheduled to start on November 23, amidst a host of Arab, African and international shows.
The festival, headed by director and artist Mounir al-Araqi, is currently continuing preparations for the 25th session of the festival, which will include, in addition to the shows, a group of international seminars from November 25 to 27, 2024, titled 'Theatre, Genocide and Resistance: Towards a New Human Horizon'.
The Qatari show participating in the festival revolves in a tragic form around the leader who controls the village and the farmers, as he searches for someone to give his son a heart in a surgical operation.
So, he bargains with “Shahid” in order to save his son’s life, taking advantage of the condition of Shahid’s son, who is also lying in the hospital after being hit by a stray or intentional bullet, awaiting treatment, so the bargaining continues with resorting to all methods of material enticement or moral terrorism in a dispute over the right to the heart that lives.
When a witness is forced to acknowledge by tricks and coercion, everyone moved to the hospital and the end has come with the death of the two hearts. To conclude the show with a hymn that clearly projects on every usurping occupier who wants to enjoy the wealth of others.
The Carthage Theatre Festival is supervised by the Tunisian Ministry of Culture and Heritage Preservation. This event was launched in 1983, to be organised like the Carthage Cinema Festival once every two years. In 2010 the Carthage Music Days were added to them, and the Carthage Poetry Days were added in 2018.
