Qatar’s publishing houses participating in the Riyadh International Book Fair 2024 are making a notable presence at the event, showcasing prominent literary and intellectual works of authors from Qatar.
Qatar is this year's guest of honour at the book fair, which is featuring 2,000 publishing houses from 30 Arab and foreign countries.
The book fair open on September 26 and runs until October 5.
Represented by Qatar’s Ministry of Culture and several Qatar-based publishing houses, Qatar's participation stems from its commitment to partake in international book fairs, which serve as an opportunity to promote Qatari intellectual production to a wider audience and highlight the continuous development of the publishing industry in Qatar.
The head of marketing and sales at Qatar University Press, Sheikha Shaikha al-Thani, told the Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the academic publishing house is participating in the book fair with over 80 titles, including 16 new 2024 releases, covering various fields including academic publications, business management, law, sociology, Sharia, philosophy, and history.
Ayman Abdulsamad of Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Press told the QNA that this is the fourth HBKU Press participation in the Riyadh International Book Fair.
HBKU Press is presenting over 600 titles this year, including academic works, books on lifestyle and health, science fiction and children's literature, in addition to books on self-development, novels, translated works, and research works from leading scholars in the region.
Over 200 events and activities will accompany the Riyadh International Book Fair 2024, including panel discussions, poetry evenings, workshops, storytelling sessions, activities for children, theatrical performances, and the book talks event hosting influential thinkers and authors.
