The Kerala Business Forum (KBF) celebrated Onam 2024 with an event attended by nearly a 1,000 strong gathering at Al Arabi Sports Club. President Aji Kuriakose presided, with Indian ambassador Shri Vipul as the chief guest. Inaugurating the event, the envoy observed that Onam symbolises the unity and cooperation of the Malayali community.
The celebration, which reflected Kerala’s rich heritage and culture, witnessed the participation of community leaders including the Indian Business and Professionals Council (IBPC) president Thaha Muhammad, Indian Cultural Centre president Manikandan, Indian Community Benevolent Forum president Shanavas Bava, Indian Sports Centre president Abdul Rahman E P, KBF advisory board chairman Ramakrishnan, and former presidents Abdullah Theruvath, Jayaraj, Dr Mohan Thomas and many others.
KBF members who received Qatar Permanent Residency, Dr V V Hamsa and Dr Abdul Rahman Karinchola, along with Ramakrishnan and Rony Paul, who were elected to the IBPC, were honoured at the event.
Traditional events such as the floral carpet competition, tug-of-war, Thiruvathira, Chenda Melam, Vallappattu, and Uriyadi enthralled both children and adults alike. The celebrations were further enhanced by performances of Onam songs, dances, and sports events by renowned artists. The children’s Onam games and dances also garnered attention.
The event featured a musical show, cultural programmes, and prize distribution. Conveners Shamseer Hamsa, Ajay Puthur, and Biju C K led the programme.
