The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has sent 58,000 food baskets to Namibia, as part of Qatar's steady relief aid efforts to the country.
The aid, weighing 1,745 tonnes, will be delivered via a maritime vessel, which departed from Mersin Port in Turkiye on Sunday morning and is expected to arrive in Namibia in 5-6 weeks, according to a QFFD statement.
The vessel, which is bound for the areas most affected by the effects of desertification in Namibia, contains essential food items such as bags of rice, cooking oil, soybeans, fish, chicken, and canned meat.
The total number of food baskets sent to Namibia to combat desertification via air and sea, will reach 63,500, weighing about 1,925 tonnes.
This food aid complements Qatar's relief efforts via an air bridge established some weeks ago, with a total load of around 180 tonnes, equivalent to 5,500 food baskets.
