The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) celebrated World Patient Safety Day. The theme this year was 'Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety,' and in line with the slogan 'Get it Right, Make it Safe!,'
The PHCC's headquarters and Al Waab Health Centre were lit up in orange, coinciding with the World Health Organisation’s call to light buildings in this colour, which symbolises patient safety.
The PHCC participated in the scientific conference for the 10th Qatar Patient Safety Week, organised by the Ministry of Public Health over three days. PHCC managing director Dr Mariam Abdul Malik, participated in a panel discussion that addressed the latest developments in the field of patient safety, featuring a selection of local and international speakers.
Nawal Khattabi, director of Risk Management, Patient Safety, and Patient Engagement at PHCC, delivered a lecture on improving patient safety and engagement. The PHCC had a dedicated booth at the conference, where various activities were organised to raise awareness about the importance of accurate diagnosis and its crucial role in patient safety, alongside showcasing the corporation’s significant efforts regarding patient safety over the past decade.
This year’s patient safety campaign featured a series of events that took place in 31 health centres affiliated with the PHCC. A special corner was designated in each centre throughout the campaign week to raise awareness among staff and patients about their active role in improving diagnostic accuracy and safety. A campaign corner was also set up for one day at the corporation’s headquarters to engage staff there in the importance of diagnostic safety.
Awareness messages were also sent to the community and staff via social media and the corporation’s website about the campaign’s theme, in addition to organising competitions to enhance community and employee participation in this important initiative.
The PHCC also organised competitions and interdisciplinary training workshops for staff titled 'Diagnostic Safety,' aiming to enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient safety in daily practice.
