Qatar University celebrated World Mental Health Day under the slogan, "It's time to prioritize mental health in the workplace", in the presence of a number of university officials and with the participation of a number of state institutions working in the field of mental health.
This event, which was supervised by the Student Counseling Center, aimed to raise awareness of mental health issues and the importance of achieving them in the university environment, in addition to mobilizing efforts to face challenges in this health field.
The event included a discussion session on achieving mental health in the university environment, in which Dr Nawaf al-Zayoud, Coordinator of Graduate Studies, Department of Psychological Sciences, College of Education, Qatar University, Dr. Abdullah Al-Juhi, Assistant Medical Director and Director of the Psychological Intervention Department at Naufar Center, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Atr, a psychiatrist at Hamad Medical Corp, participated.
The speakers shed light on a number of important topics, including the importance of improving the psychological well-being of employees and creating a healthy work environment for them.
They also addressed the psychological well-being of students and stressed its importance as one of the basic elements that affect academic and social behaviour. They noted the role of Qatar University in creating a healthy environment for all its members through the Student Counseling Center, which has contributed significantly to providing psychological support services to students to overcome psychological, behavioral, social and emotional difficulties and disorders that may affect their performance.
In a statement, Dr Mohammed Siddiq Majzoub, Director of the Student Counseling Center at Qatar University, said that the celebration of World Mental Health Day comes from the importance of mental health for the individual and its impact on society as a whole, pointing to the role of the center in providing integrated services to university members to benefit from these services in an integrated manner.
The celebration of World Mental Health Day also witnessed an exhibition in which centers concerned with providing mental health services participated, as well as institutions and social centers interested in psychological and student counseling.
