Caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati announced Friday that the government has decided, upon the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to formally ask the UN Security Council for a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire and the implementation of UN Resolution 1701.
This took place following a cabinet meeting Friday. Mikati condemned Israel's continuous violations of Lebanese sovereignty, calling the Unifil attack a "crime" and urging the international community to respond.
Meanwhile, Lebanese caretaker Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib discussed Friday with the UN Resident Co-ordinator and Humanitarian Co-ordinator in Lebanon Imran Riza, the serious consequences of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
A statement by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry said that the meeting discussed ways to end the major humanitarian crisis facing Lebanon due to the large wave of displacement, in addition to the efforts made by UN organisations and agencies to meet the needs of the Lebanese people in these difficult circumstances.
