The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has stressed the importance of protecting the routes of migratory birds on the occasion of the World Migratory Bird Day. In addition, the Ministry pointed out that the ecosystems that these birds depend on while coming to Qatar or passing through the country should be protected to help enable these birds continue their journeys. The Ministry noted that the protection of migratory birds in a joint international responsibility that requires collaborative efforts among the stakeholders to maintain biodiversity and the sustainability of the natural environments.
Qatar annually receives a wide range of migratory birds that play a vital role in maintaining ecological equilibrium, and represent an integral part of the natural heritage of the country. Some of these migratory birds include the swallow, the osprey and the greater flamingo.
