HE the Minister of Transport Jassim Saif Ahmed al-Sulaiti on Sunday participated in the Ministerial Roundtable (Diwan) at the Global Logistics Forum in Riyadh with attendance of several Arab and foreign ministers and senior officials, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transport.Highlighting the current challenges to supply chains and world trade, the Minister of Transport, in his remarks, stressed the importance of working together to make a fundamental change in the warehousing and logistics market to ultimately create several gainful opportunities by adopting digital transformation, clean energy in transportation to improve the efficiency of logistics services, streamlining the regulatory procedures and enhancing international co-operation."The initiatives Qatar launches to keep pace with the transformation in the logistics, warehousing and transportation industries are creating promising investment opportunities, by providing an eco-friendly infrastructure that is equipped with the latest technologies and compliant with highest efficiency and competitiveness standards, in addition to flexible laws and legislation that meet investors’ aspirations,” he said.These efforts, he said, led to Qatar being ranked 14th and 19th globally on the World Bank's latest Logistics Performance Index and the Global Quality Infrastructure Index, respectively.To reinforce these initiatives, he said, work is underway to put in motion a national strategy for the logistics services sector, aiming to solidify Qatar’s ranking as a global logistics hub and to enable traders, investors with less time and cost and this would support the requirements of economic diversification clusters for logistics services and shipping.The Minister of Transport said Qatar’s vision for developing its logistics industry, and the various associated services is not just an ambitious thought, but a necessity to achieve economic growth and sustainability. He also welcomed working closely with governments, global bodies and the private sector to make this vision a reality.The minister also attended the opening ceremony of GLF. Numerous Arab and foreign ministers, high-profile officials, logistics and transportation industry leaders from around the world were in attendance.Themed, "Reshaping the Global Map of Logistics”, GLF brings together more than 100 speakers, thought leaders, experts, renowned CEOs of global logistics and transportation companies, as well as public and private sector representatives.It discusses improving the efficiency of the logistics industry, reinforcing the local, regional and global integration of international trade networks and supply chains and taking public-private partnerships to new heights to increase investment opportunities.
