The Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Holy Qur'an Competition has won the Croatian International Award for Service to the Holy Qur'an.

This, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, is in appreciation of efforts in serving the Holy Qur'an worldwide. The award was received during the closing ceremony of the European competition held in the Croatian capital Zagreb. Contestants from 41 countries participated in the competition that was organised by the General Secretariat of the European International Competition at the Islamic Sheikhdom under the supervision of the Secretary-General of the European International Competition Khaled Yassin.

The Qatari delegation to the competition was headed by Khaled Shaheen al-Ghanim, assistant undersecretary for Islamic Affairs at Awqaf. The delegation included Malallah Abdulrahman al-Jaber, director of the Department of Da’wa and Religious Guidance and chairman of the Organising Committee of the Sheikh Jassim Holy Quran Competition. Also, the delegation had several members of the competition organising committee. These included Dr Saad Fadel al-Kuwari, assistant director of the Department of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, head of the Religious Guidance Department and Youssef Hassan al-Hammadi, head of the Scholarships Section at the department of Da’wa and Religious Guidance.

Sheikh Jassim Competition has received this honorary award for recognition of the efforts of the global competition and its support for external Quranic competitions. The competition extensively supports and ensures the success of several Quranic competitions outside Qatar. This is in line with Qatar’s efforts to spread and teach the Holy Qur'an worldwide and to motivate the participants in these competitions to interact with Qura’n and develop their skills in memorising and reciting the holy book. This support also strengthens the cultural relations and rapprochement between different people and exchanges religious and spiritual knowledge while embodying Qatar's social responsibility and commitment to spreading the values ​​of tolerance and mercy.

Sheikh Jassim Competition has also provided financial support for a number of international competitions. This amounted to QR1.6 mn. The Russian Federation Holy Qur'an Competition and the European International Competition for Memorisation and Recitation of the Holy Qur'an held in Croatia received supported. Also, the competition supported the Holy Qur'an Competition in the Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Khaled Yassin expressed his thanks and great appreciation to Awqaf for being the first supporter and permanent main partner in organising the event.
