Al Raqim Qatar International Arabic Calligraphy Competition under the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has gifted Arabic calligraphy notebooks in Ruq’ah script to the middle and secondary school students who are participating.
A statement from Awqaf said 490 male and female students from eight government schools received the notebooks. This is to train them to write various models in Ruq’ah script while enhancing their artistic ability and honing their talent in the arts of Arabic calligraphy before participating in the competition tests.
The competition is organised by Awqaf for school students in cooperation with the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) at Qatar Museums. It is held under the supervision of the Qatar Al Raqim International Arabic Calligraphy Competition Committee.
Awqaf earlier launched Al Raqim at Fanar in the presence and sponsorship of HE the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanem. The competition epitomises the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 in entrenching its cultural role in the Middle East and the entire world, in addition to promoting cultural exchange among Arab nations.
Al Raqim is one of the Arabic competitions with the highest prize money. The total prize money is QR1mn. There are five categories featured in the competition with each recognising eight winners. The jury of Al-Raqim consists of five of the world's leading calligraphers.
