The Qatari junior beach handball team qualified for the 2025 World Championship in Tunisia, after defeating its Indonesian counterpart (2-0), on Friday, at the conclusion of the third Asian Junior (U-17) Beach Handball Championship.
The tournament was held in the Thai capital, Bangkok, with the participation of 7 teams: Qatar, Oman, Iran, Jordan, China, Indonesia and hosts Thailand.
The Qatari team ended the first half of the match with a score of (30-18), before winning the second half in its favour as well with a score of (23-12).
With this victory, the Qatari team raised its score to 6 points, obtaining third place behind Iran (champion) and Thailand (runner-up), and thus ensuring its advancement to the third World Junior Beach Handball Championship, which will be held in the Tunisian city of Hammamet from June 17-22, 2025.
This is the second consecutive qualification for the Qatari junior beach handball team to the World Championship, as it had qualified for the previous edition held in Greece in 2022 after also coming in third in the second Asian Championship held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in the same year. The Qatari team lost its first match against Jordan 1-2, while it won the second match against China 2-0.
Qatar then lost the third match against Thailand 1-2, and the fourth match against Iran with the same result, and won the fifth match against Oman 2-0, before concluding its journey on Friday with a victory over Indonesia 2-0.
It is worth noting that the Thai national team won the title of the first edition of the Asian Junior Beach Handball Championship, which was held in Pattaya in 2016, while the Iranian national team won the title of the second edition in Tehran in 2022.
