Qatar Chamber hosted on Monday a Malaysian delegation led by Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, the president of the Senate of Malaysia.The delegation was received by Qatar Chamber second vice-chairman Rashid bin Hamad al-Athba, including Qatar Chamber board member Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli and Malaysian ambassador Faizal Razali.The meeting reviewed the economic and trade relations between Qatar and Malaysia, exploring ways to enhance them. It also discussed the investment climate and opportunities available in both countries, along with potential areas for co-operation between Qatari and Malaysian companies across various sectors.Al-Athba emphasised the strong and distinguished relations between Qatar and Malaysia, highlighting that Malaysia is an important trade partner for Qatar. He said the trade volume of both countries reached QR5.1bn in 2024 from QR2.9bn in 2023.He said numerous Malaysian companies are operating in Qatar across various sectors, including trade, contracting, and services, and pointed out the significant Qatari investments in Malaysia.Al-Athba underscored Qatar Chamber’s readiness to support Malaysian investors interested in Qatar. He also emphasised the chamber’s commitment to strengthening cooperation between the business communities of both nations.Basah said that Qatar and Malaysia enjoyed distinguished relations, praising Qatar's economic and investment leadership, as well as its successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.He also emphasised Malaysia's eagerness to strengthen co-operation with Qatar at all levels, expressing hope for increased Qatari investments in Malaysia, which offers leading opportunities across various sectors.Furthermore, he invited the Qatari side to visit Malaysia and participate in the Asean, the Gulf Co-operation Council, and China Summit in May, underscoring the event’s significance in fostering greater co-operation between Asia and the Gulf.Al-Obaidli noted that Qatar is one of the leading countries investing in Malaysia, highlighting the importance of strengthening co-operation between the Qatari and Malaysian private sectors, particularly in technology, food security, and renewable energy.He said Qatar aims to be a leading hub for trade, investment, and technology, especially given its strategic partnerships with several key global countries. Al-Obaidli also stressed the need to enhance co-operation between Qatari and Malaysian companies, noting that Qatar offers pioneering investment opportunities and a conducive business environment.
