HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the State of Qatar Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, participated in two high-level ministerial sessions held as part of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which is taking place in Cali, Colombia.

During his interventions at the ministerial sessions, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change called for the need to integrate international policies and avoid conflicts regarding climate action and biodiversity. He noted that the lack of coordination and fragmentation of these policies would weaken their effectiveness and disperse efforts.

His Excellency emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges of capacity-building for developing countries and the transfer and localization of necessary technologies to achieve and implement the agreements' objectives in alignment with their goals.

He mentioned that the State of Qatar is currently working on updating its biodiversity plan, expected to be completed by 2025, aligning its outcomes and goals with its international commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. These outcomes and goals also align with Qatars Third National Development Plan, which concludes in 2030.

His Excellency also highlighted Qatars efforts in establishing a biodiversity database project in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). This project aims to support the Biodiversity Information Exchange Mechanism through an advanced electronic system operating at the national, regional, and international levels.
