Editor in Chief of Gulf Times, Faisal Al-Mudahka stated his opinion regarding the referendum on November 5: The importance of voting on the constitutional amendments lies in the fact that, from my point of view, it represents a fourth stage in the political and social development of the State of Qatar. After the establishment of the state by the founder on 18 December 1878 and with the support of the loyal Qatari people who went through stages of great sacrifices, then the stage of independence in 1971, and the drafting of the constitution in 2003, comes this new stage on November 5, which is represented in developing the current constitution.
This amendment aims to enhance the principle of equality among citizens in rights and duties, which reflects national unity and strengthens the bonds of social cohesion between the people and the leadership. This development also contributes to shaping a sustainable future for coming generations, by achieving political stability, economic progress, and social development.
The popular referendum is considered a civilized approach to change, and reflects the wise leadership's commitment to continue working with the social covenant on which the state was founded, thus strengthening the solid relationship between the honorable ruling family and the loyal Qatari people. This referendum also embodies the leadership's desire to consolidate and strengthen national unity so that it remains strong and bequeaths it to future generations.
