Champion trainer Jassim Ghazali enjoyed a fantastic day at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s Al Rayyan Park with two winners yesterday, including Al Ghazali Stud-owned Mared Al Jasra, who topped the day’s feature, Al Beshariyah Cup – the season opener race.
Jockey Alberto Sanna waited until the final 400m before kicking the Ghazali ward for home overtaking the long-time leaders. The four-year-old colt quickened away from his rivals and was pushed out to win by a length and three quarters. Al Shaqab Racing’s four-year-old bay filly Nafjah finished second.
Nasser Saeed MS al-Eida’s Sydney Mews won the 1900m Thoroughbred Novice Plate (Fillies & Mares) race for three-year-old+ to give trainer Ghazali his first win of the day.
Abdulla Rashid al-Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners.
Trainer Hamad al-Jehani also completed a quadruple of win on the season opener day as jockey Szczepan Mazur guided his Saif Rashid Saif al-Khayarin-owned ward Local Law to the Thoroughbred Handicap (80-105) for three-year-old+ victory. The six-year-old bay gelding finished four lengths and a quarter ahead of Saeed Ibrahim Saeed al-Malki’s Hessdalen to win the 1700m race. Earlier in the day, Mohamed Nasser RA al-Naimi’s Akmar won the 1700m race for the Purebred Arabian Handicap (65-85) for three-year-old+.
The Hadi al-Ramzani’ trained nine-year-old grey gelding won the race by a neck.
