The yards for selling local agriculture products at Al Wakra, Al Khor and Al Thakhira, Al Sheehaniya, and Al Shamal resumed their operations for a new season. These yards will be open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7am to 3pm, with around 160 local farms expected to market their products. These yards across the country aim to showcase and promote local products, especially as specific standards and conditions have been set for the quality and safety of the vegetables and fruits on display.
The yards, which provide a direct sales channel for both producers and consumers, are a form of support provided by the State to the farm owners in the mission to boost agricultural production in the country and increasing self-sufficiency rates. More than 50% of local production is marketed through the yards, with the rest sold at the central markets and other commercial complexes.
In particular, Al Wakra yard attracted a large number of shoppers during the opening day. The market showcased a wide variety of agricultural products, with strong sales activity from the early hours. The demand was high on the local produce available in the market, including zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, various leafy vegetables, Sidr honey, and fresh date molasses.
