A new business case study examining the challenges of managing a smart city project in Qatar is being integrated into Carnegie Mellon University Qatar (CMU-Q)’s curriculum, thanks to a collaboration between Meeza and Msheireb Properties.Titled “Meeza QSTP (Qatar Science and Technology Park) and Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD): A Smart City Project”, the study is set to provide students with a relevant and thought-provoking analysis of a real-world smart city initiative.“By developing learning resources from the region and for the region, we aim to provide relevance in learning, enrich student’s experiences, and advance Qatar’s skillset in alignment with Qatar Vision 2030.“Together, we are helping the global business community understand the unique context and dynamics of Qatar and the region,” said Meeza in their LinkedIn post. The case study examines the challenges faced by Meeza in managing the complex information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure of the MDD, a flagship project for sustainable urban development and technological innovation in Qatar. The study also explores how Meeza employed innovative strategies, relationship building, and cultural sensitivity to overcome these obstacles, aiming to establish the MDD as a leading global example of a successful smart city.It is learnt that Meeza, a prominent player in Qatar’s technology sector, signed an operational contract with Msheireb Properties in 2017 to provide the Smart City ICT package. This contract positioned Meeza as the Master System Integrator for ICT operations at the MDD, which is recognised as the world’s first fully built smart and sustainable city district.Meanwhile, the collaboration between CMU-Q and Meeza extends beyond the case study.Last year the two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding to foster co-operation in areas such as education, scientific research, and community development. This includes internship and employment opportunities for CMU-Q students, as well as training for Meeza’s executive leadership.
