Philippine ambassador Lillibeth V Pono underlined the need for sustainable and resilient infrastructure during the recent inaugural conference of the Qatar Chapter of the Road Engineering Association of the Philippines in Doha.

“Sustainable infrastructure means designing transportation systems that minimise their environmental impact and enhance energy efficiency,” she said. “This involves incorporating innovative technologies, such as smart transportation systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and renewable energy sources, among others. By embracing these technologies, we can reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and mitigate the effects of climate change.

“By designing and constructing resilient infrastructure, we can minimise disruptions, reduce economic losses, and ensure the long-term viability of our transportation networks,” the envoy added. Pono also recognised the role of Filipino engineers, including road and transport engineers, in spurring development and progress in Qatar and the broader GCC region.
