The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) president engineer Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari on Wednesday headed the official delegation of Qatar to the meetings of the 16th Session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council and the 6th Arab Water Conference in Jordan.
The two-day conference, according to a statement from Kahramaa, is held under the slogan ‘governance towards achieving sustainable development in water’.
During his speech at the opening session, al-Kuwari stressed the collective responsibility to ensure access to clean and safe water, regardless of geography economic status or political affiliation following the commitment to the sixth goal of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“Qatar is also committed to the necessity of preserving water. We have adopted sustainable practices and launched ambitious initiatives to increase water use efficiency, enhance water conservation, and protect our precious water resources for future generations.
"We have also invested in high-tech desalination technologies, smart water network systems, wastewater treatment facilities and water recycling initiatives to meet the growing demand for water in a rapidly changing world.
"We have also implemented an integrated water management plan, supported by a strong water security policy, a national water strategy, and regulations to ensure the sustainable use and distribution of water resources across sectors,” he added.
