Qatar Foundation’s five-day Al Ghorrah for Literature and Arts will open Thursday at Education City, celebrating the cultural heritage and arts of Arab Islamic civilisations in many forms.

Ahead of the event, which runs from 5-10pm each day, there are five Al Ghorrah elements. Al Feel Ya Malik Al Zaman, a play written by the renowned playwright Saadallah Wannous, will be performed on the opening two nights of Al Ghorrah under the creative direction and production of Maher Salibi. The cast includes Jamal Sulieman. Performances are from 7-8pm, Thursday and Friday at Al Ghorrah’s Main Theatre.

Singer-songwriter Hamza Namira, will perform on the closing night of Al Ghorrah on December 2 at the Main Theatre, from 9-10pm.

Al Ghorrah’s Talent Stage, will present a daily parade bringing 1001 Nights to life by showcasing six diverse cultures from the legendary tales, featuring cultural performances, storytelling, traditional songs, and lectures.

The Multicultural Zone will feature activities ranging from bookmark, puppet, and map making, treasure chest decorating, and lamp colouring for children, to Arabic calligraphy, leather crafting techniques, Palestinian tatreez, creating natural inks and Islamic geometric patterns, and scroll making.

Activities in Multaqa include beginners’ and advanced calligraphy workshops, the opportunity to explore floral motifs from Islamic art and historical geometric patterns, and Islamic miniature painting workshops.

Further, visitors can enjoy a culinary experience reflecting the flavours, history, and cultures of stories from ‘1001 Nights’, connect and interact in the Qatari-Moroccan Majlis, explore the Generations Speaking Palestine exhibition – and test their puzzle-solving skills in an Escape Room inspired by ‘1001 Nights’.
