The Katara Traditional Dhow Festival 2024 continues to attract large crowds as visitors and guests flock to the festival grounds on the southern facade of Katara Beach.

The event offers a journey into the region’s maritime heritage, blending cultural authenticity with a lively atmosphere reminiscent of the past.

With the participation of 10 countries, including Qatar, the festival celebrates the deep connection between the people and the sea.

The festival’s marine competitions have been a major highlight.

On Saturday the Senyar Family Competition saw six teams compete in a spirited event held between 6am-5pm near Al Safliya Island.

On Wednesday the highly anticipated Sword Fishing Competition will begin at 3pm, featuring more than 30 participants in an individual competition taking place on the southern Katara Beach.

The pavilions of participating countries have been a significant attraction, showcasing the diversity of maritime traditions.

Among the standout displays is the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club Pavilion, making its debut at the festival.

The pavilion presents a narrative of the UAE's maritime heritage, including traditional ships, pearl diving tools, and the crafts of shipbuilders and merchants.

Saudi Arabia has also made a notable contribution to the festival, with several pavilions showcasing traditional crafts and folk arts from the Eastern Province.

Among these is the palm frond industry, a craft deeply rooted in Gulf culture.

As the festival progresses, it continues to fulfil its mission of preserving and celebrating maritime heritage while fostering cultural exchange among nations.

Visitors are invited to experience the remaining events, which bridge the past and the present, connecting generations through a shared appreciation of the sea's enduring legacy.
