President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Mohammed Ben Sulayem, has affirmed that the Qatar Airways Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix stands as one of the best rounds of the World Championship in terms of safety and security, as evidenced by the competitions of this year's 2024 edition and last year's 2023 edition.
In his remarks on Sunday on the final day of the Qatar Grand Prix, Ben Sulayem expressed his happiness with the great success of the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix, always underscoring Qatar's unique organizational capabilities in hosting the largest events in motorsports.
The FIA President praised the outstanding organization at the Lusail International Circuit, particularly regarding the continuous facilities and the smooth entry and exit for spectators and all attendees, which contrasts with major circuits in Europe where access for both fans and officials can be challenging in such large-scale World Championship events.
He emphasized that the organizers in Qatar paid attention to the smallest organizational details, from the excellent facilities in the paddock area and the grandstands to other logistical matters that contributed to the event's perfect execution, enhancing Qatar's position as a premier destination for hosting major sporting events.
Ben Sulayem considered the significant success of the Qatar Grand Prix as a result of a well-structured plan by Qatari officials, a standard to which Doha has accustomed itself, achieving continuous organizational successes in various car races and other sports, as seen during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He highlighted the ongoing and fruitful cooperation between the international and Qatari federations in developing motorsports, maintaining constant communication with President of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, Abdulrahman Al Mannai, to discuss all developmental plans for motorsports in Qatar.
Ben Sulayem appreciated the substantial efforts of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation in developing young talents through their focus on karting academies, which form the foundation for creating Formula 1 champions and are witnessing strong competition among Arab youth keen on participating in various competitions.
He revealed that the FIA is investing in 70 projects currently under development for motorsport safety with a budget of 2.8 million euros, alongside 1.9 million euros for operational and medical safety for FIA World Championships, 13 projects related to technical regulations, 47 projects related to track safety, vehicle and equipment safety, and karting safety.
The FIA President noted that the federation has invested over 10 million euros in 85 countries to develop motorsports through karting academies, as this type of racing is fundamental in producing champions in Formula 1 competitions.
