The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) organised a workshop Tuesday on ‘Integrating Climate Models for Effective Adaptation’ with over 100 participants from various sectors.
The aim was to enhance the skills of national cadres to support climate change adaptation efforts and address the growing challenges faced by countries worldwide, including rising sea levels, water scarcity, and increasing temperatures.
The workshop focused on the importance of integrating climate models and early warning systems as fundamental tools to strengthen decision-makers’ ability to predict climate risks and develop proactive plans to mitigate their negative impacts, thereby contributing to the establishment of sustainable climate resilience in the country.
The exercise provided participants with an opportunity to learn about Qatar’s National Adaptation Plan and the roles necessary to shape adaptation priorities in the country. It also aimed to enrich the plan’s development process with essential data and information.
There were discussions to facilitate knowledge exchange among participants, during which best practices and experiences from various sectors were shared to address the effects of climate change.
The National Adaptation Plan project in Qatar is part of the efforts to assess the country’s vulnerability to climate change impacts. By focusing on the most vulnerable sectors, the project seeks to protect the country’s economy, population, and environment from climate-related threats.
Through the development of the National Adaptation Plan, Qatar will be able to identify its medium- and long-term adaptation priorities and integrate them into the country’s sustainable development strategy.
